RSL EXTENDS CONDOLENCES OVER JERVIS BAY PARACHUTING TRAINING FATALITY
MEDIA ALERT
The Returned & Services League of Australia (RSL) has extended its condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Special Air Service Regiment soldier Warrant Officer Class Two Lachlan Muddle who was fatally injured during a parachuting training course at the Jervis Bay Airfield on the evening of 11 May 2026.
The RSL says the tragic incident is a sobering reminder that service to Australia carries risk, not only in conflict, but in the demanding preparation that underpins operational readiness.
RSL National President, Peter Tinley AM, said the nation mourns alongside those who knew and served with the fallen soldier.
"Every Australian who puts on a uniform accepts a level of sacrifice that most of us will never be asked to make. Warrant Officer Class Two Muddle was training to serve and protect our country, and that commitment deserves our deepest respect and gratitude. Our hearts are with Warrant Officer Class Two Muddle’s family, friends, and fellow soldiers at this incredibly difficult time."
The Department of Defence confirmed that one other Australian Army soldier was injured in the incident, though did not require hospitalisation.
The RSL extends its deepest sympathy to all those impacted and stands ready to support veterans and their families through these difficult times.
The RSL wishes the injured soldier a full and swift recovery.
