RSL Branches and Sub-Branches to Mark Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

MEDIA RELEASE

Australia’s more than 1,150 RSL Branches and Sub-Branches around Australia will mark the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, Patron of the RSL of Australia in June by lighting up in royal purple, hosting morning teas, conducting tree plantings, and other promotional activities.

The Returned & Services League of Australia (RSL) says it is fitting to mark Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years as Monarch in this way.

RSL Australia President Greg Melick said the illumination in royal purple by Branches and Sub-Branches right around the nation, or the other commemorations were appropriate measures to honour the Queen, who has served the Commonwealth and Australia faithfully for seven decades.

“This is a unique and significant occasion and our organisation, and its members are committed to playing a part in honouring the Queen, both as our Head of State and as Patron of the RSL.

“Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee is a historic event, marking 70 years of her reign as The Queen of Australia,” Greg Melick said.

“The RSL events provide fitting acknowledgement of the RSL’s long-standing relationship with our Sovereign.

“Our State and Territory Branches, Sub-Branches right around Australia and our members have the opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge this extraordinary milestone.

“Our commemoration activities demonstrate our appreciation of Her Majesty’s unwavering support of the RSL as well as her unstinting service in her 70 years as The Queen of Australia.”

Greg Melick said RSL Australia was working with its Branches and Sub-Branches to coordinate the activities and to ensure they aligned with the national and international commemoration of Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.
