RSL Hopes for Quick Recovery from Stand Collapse

MEDIA RELEASE

The Returned & Services League of Australia (RSL) has wished a speedy recovery to all those injured in today’s collapse of a portable stand at the Lavarack Barracks in Townsville.

RSL Australia National President Peter Tinley AM said he understood that nearly 100 people had been injured and many taken to hospital.

“I’m advised that a temporary grandstand was erected for a photo shoot involving members of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment. It became unstable and several the soldiers sustained non-life-threatening injuries,” he said.

“The welfare of Australian Defence Force members and their families is a priority for the RSL and while we don’t have all the details, we hope that the injuries are not serious.

“The RSL is appreciative of the prompt action of military first-aid personnel and by Townsville first responders, and our thoughts are with all those injured and their families,” Peter Tinley said
