Veterans Express Concern at Portfolio Move to Outer Ministry

 MEDIA RELEASE:

The Returned & Services League of Australia ‘s (RSL) has acknowledged that many veterans are deeply concerned and indeed angered at the apparent downgrading of the Veterans’ Affairs portfolio, placing it in the outer Ministry.

Although the RSL strongly believes the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs should be a member of the inner Cabinet, the most important issue is the level of government support provided to veterans.

RSL Australia President Greg Melick has already spoken to the new Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel, Matt Keogh, who has a very impressive resume and is extremely committed to supporting the interests of veterans and their welfare.

“The Albanese Government has committed to spending an additional $500 million on veterans’ welfare and, as previously indicated, this is very much welcomed,” Greg Melick said.

“The RSL will be vigilant in ensuring that this funding commitment is delivered and will continue to press the government to resolve the crucial issues faced by veterans and their families.”
