RSL President to Attend Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

MEDIA RELEASE

The President of the Returned & Services League of Australia (RSL), Greg Melick, will represent the organisation and Australia’s veterans at the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey at 11 am on Monday, September 19.

As one of Her Majesty the Queen’s long-standing Patronages, the RSL was invited to be represented at the funeral.

Greg Melick said Her Majesty the Queen occupied a special place in the hearts of Australian service personnel, veterans, and their families.

“For more than 70 years, she has provided her patronage, support and expressed care for the welfare of the Australian veteran community,” he said. “It is a great honour for the RSL and its members to be invited to be represented at the funeral of Her Majesty.

“Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II dedicated her life to the service of Britain and our Commonwealth of nations, and the RSL will be forever grateful for her commitment, encouragement and support for our veterans, service personnel and their families.

“For the past seven decades, every person who enlisted in the Australian Defence Force, swore an oath to serve Queen Elizabeth II and her heirs and successors so it is fitting we are now able to personally express our condolences.”
